Ready, Set, Rabbit!

Kum met up with a friend from Melbourne who then introduced us to her friend, Ly Anh. A bubbly and super friendly lady who proposed an interesting Friday night activity. When they were at uni in Tooting (South of London), they would make their way to the Wimbledon Stadium to bet on greyhounds. It's a fun and casual event that I never knew was so popular! Kum and I thought we'd give it a go since neither of us had been before.

We had to travel a fair way to get there but it was definitely worth it. Although Kum and I didn't win anything, it was an experience I surprisingly enjoyed (I would have enjoyed it more if I had won something :P).

One thing that I heard people enjoy about this event is that the dogs here are raced in 15min intervals. Meaning you have just enough time to watch the race, collect your winnings if you were lucky, place a bet on the next race and then it starts again. It's quick paced so that you aren't waiting around too long and the excitement is constant. It presents a very casual atmosphere where people gather to have a drink or two (or ten) and bet on a race, not worrying about whether it's your first time or you're a regular. A guide book is available for you that gives you the statistics of all the dogs racing. How long they've been racing, what their fastest time has been, how many times they've won etc. And even though we studied it to some extent, obviously it didn't help :(
